Hi! I’m Garrett. I’m a writer and organizer in Milwaukee. I think a bunch about why building community is our only hope. I also run trainings where people from across the world learn how to host gatherings that make the world kinder and more livable.
The picture below is of me at a bowling alley in my neighborhood. I’ll probably always be a terrible bowler, but I’m working on being a better neighbor.
I have a newsletter! It’s called The White Pages and a ton of people across the whole world read it because it makes you feel like, even though the world is really rough right now, there’s still so much we can do.
I wrote a book! It’s called The Right Kind of White and it’s about a lifetime spent trying to prove that I was better than other White people (and how doing so wasn’t all that helpful). If you’re tired of politics as just one self-righteous argument after another, I think you’ll like it.
Oh, and those trainings? I run them through an organization called The Barnraisers Project. You can sign up for our interest list here.
I just launched a pretty cool project. Starting in April, 2026, I’m helping local organizers host fifty gatherings in fifty states. It’s like a relay race, but one where everybody wins.
